Fort Hays State University (FHSU) was established in 1902. FHSU is in western Kansas with an enrollment of 10,000 students, 5,000 on its campus in Hays, Kansas and 5,000 students off-campus throughout the world. FHSU has four academic colleges—Arts and Science, Education and Technology, Business and Leadership, and Health and Life Sciences—and a graduate school. It offers 42 undergraduate programs and 20 graduate programs. FHSU students have won numerous national academic awards in debate, graphic design, technology studies, agri-marketing, financial planning, and leadership studies. FHSU has nearly 250 international students on-campus from 25 countries; over 160 students are from China. FHSU has achieved over a 98% track record for success in assisting international students to receive F1 and J1 visas to travel to FHSU in Hays. As one of the safest towns, Hays is a suitable place for study, particularly to improve English skills. FHSU was named one of the best college towns in the nation and in 1996 won the All America City Award. On-campus housing consists of traditional dormitories as well as fully-furnished apartment-style housing.
